First Teaser Trailer for "The Revenant"

Image via AMC Movie News

The first official trailer for Academy Award-Winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu's The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, has been released. Right away, you can easily tell it is an Iñárritu film because his way of shooting is unlike anyone else. The way he follows his actors with the camera makes it feel as if the viewer is right there walking alongside the characters and that is a very unique quality. The music that he uses in this trailer is also reminiscent to that of Birdman, the film that won him the Academy Award last year. It is also interesting to note the film was made using only natural lighting, which is a very difficult thing to do as it makes it much more difficult to manipulate shadows and the light is always unpredictable. The trailer itself doesn't tell us much of the story, but teasers rarely do that. Nonetheless, this is still one of the best trailers I have seen all year. Even though there is not much dialogue in this teaser, there is still great intensity to every scene shown. Will this be the role that finally gives DiCaprio his first Oscar? Only time will tell, but his chances are looking good. The Revenant is scheduled for a limited release on December 25, 2015 followed by a wide release on January 8, 2016.

Film Review: "Pacific Rim: Uprising"

It has been five years since Guillermo del Toro’s original hit theaters, but Pacific Rim is finally back. Pacific Rim: Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight, the man behind Marvel’s Daredevil series, and stars John Boyega as Jake Pentecost. Joining Boyega are fellow newcomers Scott Eastwood as Nate Lambert and Cailee Spaeny as Amara Namani. Burn Gorman, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi return to reprise their roles from the original film. If you’ve never seen the original, don’t worry, Pacific Rim: Uprising does a well-enough job at filling the audience in on the events leading up to this film. Uprising picks up 10 years after the events of the original and it sets up a world that is still rebuilding after the devastating events from the war against the Kaiju. The film wastes no time in introducing the troublemaking Jake, son of fallen hero Stacker Pentecost. After running into trouble with the law, Jake is forced to train a new generation of Jaeger pilots in order...

Golden Globes Predictions

On Sunday, January 7th the 2018 Golden Globes will be taking place. Below are my predictions. Please note that I will only be making predictions for the film side of things. BEST MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA Call Me by Your Name Dunkirk The Post The Shape of Water Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Should win: Call Me by Your Name Will win: The Shape of Water While I think Call Me by Your Name has a legitimate shot at winning, it's hard to ignore the amount of love and hype behind The Shape of Water .  BEST MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY The Disaster Artist Get Out The Greatest Showman I, Tonya Lady Bird Should win: Get Out Will win: Get Out Look, there is absolutely no reason why Get Out should be nominated in this category since it is neither a comedy nor a musical, but here we are now. While I wouldn't argue with anyone who thinks Lady Bird will win, I think that Get Ou t 's social relevance will g...

What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?

What is it about horror movies that draw audiences in to see them?   There is the thrill of being scared, sure, but is that really as far as it goes? I think not. You see, more than any other genre, horror films are a product of their generation and they typically speak to or highlight the societal issues that are going on around the time that a given horror film is made.   In many ways, horror films help us understand or comment on important issues such as race ( Get Out ), sexuality ( It Follows ), and mental/physical/emotional issues ( The Babadook ). Horror is a genre with many faces but for this particular article, I will touch on what I believe to be the best horror subgenres, the slasher film, and discuss why they are important.              I can understand why people may be a bit turned off by slasher films. In many ways they are a lot closer to reality than a monster or demonic horror movie. Many slasher films...
