"Captain America: Civil War" Posters and Trailer Revealed!

Images via ComingSoon.net

Last night, the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming Captain America: Civil War dropped along with 3 posters. First of all, I have to say that I love all 3 posters. They do a great job in highlighting the separation between the characters and they are sure to start making fans want to pick a side. Speaking of, I thought they would go with the usual "Whose side are you on?" tag but I was pleasantly surprised to see instead "Divided we fall".

As great as these posters are, however, they pale in comparison to the trailer. Simply put, I think this has been the best trailer I have seen all year. The trailer clearly explained what this story will revolve around and showed fantastic action shots but yet didn't reveal any major spoilers. The music flowed perfectly with the trailer and nothing seemed out of place or unnecessary.

Much like the posters, but even more so, the trailer clearly lays out the division between the characters but it seems to set Bucky Barnes (aka The Winter Soldier) as the reason that the division is even happening. I wasn't expecting Bucky to be such a central part of the story but it makes sense given how The Winter Soldier ended. We finally saw Black Panther, who looks flat-out awesome, and it was great to see him in action.

The tone for this trailer was rather dark, heavy and emotional but it needed to in order to really make people split in regards to which side is right and which is wrong. The trailer closes out with a terrific shot of Cap and Bucky beating up Iron Man, which was fascinating to see in itself but it was made all the more powerful by the lines that preceded it. After Steve apologizes to Tony and says that he has to do it because Bucky is his friend, Tony simply says: "So was I." Tony's tone and facial expression, accompanied with the specific wording  in saying "was"instead of "am", made it a heartbreaking scene.

While I am dying to finally see Spider-Man in the MCU, I'm glad that he didn't show up in this trailer. Also noticeably missing were characters such as Ant-Man, Vision, and Brock Rumlow (aka Crossbones). I have no doubt that we will see these characters in the next couple of trailers we will get before the movie comes out. Captain America: Civil War is set to release on May 6, 2016.

Guillermo del Toro: The Man Behind the Monsters

"Since childhood, I've been faithful to monsters. I have been saved and absolved by them. Because monsters, I believe, are patron saints of our blissful imperfection. They allow and embody the possibility of failing and living." Those were the words that Guillermo del Toro spoke after winning his first Golden Globe for his directorial work on The Shape of Water . It was a speech that I connected with and understood completely. With the Oscars coming up, I want to say a few words on what Guillermo del Toro and his films mean to me and why I am rooting for him to win the Best Director award at the Academy Awards.              Growing up, my parents never really censored what my brothers and I saw on TV or at the movies. As a result, I was exposed to many of the great horror films at an extremely young age. Slashers were a constant in our home. Despite how much they scared me, they also fascinated me. Slashers were the norm for...

Classic Movie Monday: "Rear Window" vs "Disturbia"

There are certain classics that, in theory, should be much harder to re-imagine than others. Often times, it’s very difficult to modernize certain aspects of a story, whether it be the topic or story plot. By all accounts, Alfred Hitchcock’s mystery thriller Rear Window should have been difficult to adapt in 2007. Rear Window ’s plot makes the film date itself more than other Hitchcock films. At the center of the 1954 film, which stars James Stewart, is L.B. “Jeff” Jeffries, a photographer whose broken-leg forces him to be wheelchair-bound and unable to leave his house. Having nothing else to do, Jeff passes the time by spying on the people from the apartment complex across from his. When he sees what he believes to be a murder at the hands of a man named Thorwald, Jeff takes it upon himself to solve the crime. Rear Window remains one of Hitchcock’s most decorated films, so it is no surprise that eventually someone would try and remake it. The question, however, is how? The idea...
